"Eh, I'll do it later"

Remember when you were in school and your teachers gave you all this homework , and then you put it off until the last minute? You're procrastinating. Procrastination is very, very common. There is no one in this world that has not procrastinated at least once in their life. In Amy Swanson's article, " The real reasons why you procrastinate -- and how to stop ", she explains the theories of Tim Urban's Ted Talk . The article explains why we procrastinate, and frequently refers back to Urban. As a matter of fact, while I was reading the article myself, I went off topic and procrastinated from reading the rest of it. At the beginning of the article, Swanson refers to the Chernobyl accident, and I have always wanted to know more about it. I copied and pasted the word Chernobyl into a Google search and spent the rest of my class (about half an hour) reading articles about the Chernobyl incident. I still haven't finished reading the rest of Swanson's arti

A Life Worth A Fortune

There once lived a child who dreamed and dreamed. The child dreamed so much the fantasies became realities. The child could rule the universe, have all the fortunes the planet could provide. Instead it strays away from the world, to be left alone. The child hopes when time comes it will not be ridiculed to death. The child hopes one day the friends it dreams of will no longer have to be dreamt. This child hopes and dreams for everything invaluable to which most take as expendable. Many times the child has questioned "Can I dream forever? To sleep and never wake up, can I?" Most nights it tries its hardest to dream and dream until it will never wake up. The child wishes to live in its dream forever. The child wishes to die in its fantasy. It wishes to forget reality. The reality it tried so hard to make its fantasy. But even with the most power it is useless. Amongst the child's dream comes along a fox. The fox asked, "why don't you have any friends?" T

Woosh! Back To The Time!

When I was younger used to wish I could go to the future. I wanted to know what was going to happen. When was I going to die? How was I going to leave this beautiful world? Would I grow up to be a soldier or would I grow up to be a rock star? I wanted a time machine to tell me my entire life. I wanted what every other kid wanted, the future. As I grew older I wanted to go back in time to the past. I wanted to relive the happiest moments of my life and recreate the worst ones. I wanted to keep experiencing the first time I laid my eyes on a teddy bear, my fifth birthday party, and the time my dad came home for good. I wanted to see happiness with the most innocent eyes. I wanted the past to become the future. When someone asks you if you would rather go back in time or if you would rather travel to the future, would you say past or future? Would you rather relive old memories or seek new happiness? Let’s say a friend answers they want to revisit the past. Why? It seems foolis

Ray Bradbury: An Ingenuitive Dystopia

Who is Ray Bradbury? Ray Bradbury is an ingenious novelist peculiarly interested in the idea of dystopia . Having written over hundreds of books, they all seem to be placed in a dystopian society. Dystopia in itself is quite an interesting idea, but for Bradbury to think of a future we live so closely to is amazing. A man living during the 1950s, publishing stories of our present time. He thought of every idea he has published and alone has accomplished such an imagination so close to our very own reality. Ever heard of a guy named Leonard Mead? He’s a famous pedestrian who lived during 2053 A.D., he was friends with Mr. Bradbury here. While the rest of the city was sleeping Mr. Mead would walk out of his house to go for a stroll. On the empty streets lit up with nothing but flickering street lamps you could see him, every night, on his stroll, but for what? “Walking for air, walking to see” he’d say as if he was one of the only people who appreciated and cherished the world an

A Book? Never Heard Of It

Now, I know many of you don't like reading, but why not? It's one of the many wonders of the world. A way you can explore without moving an inch, without spending so much. You can seek for new discoveries with just the imagination of you, whatever that may be. One new book is one new adventure. Go from here, to here right on your own bed! From experience, finding a good book to read is difficult. You just need to know what you like otherwise, how do you get through life? Know what you want. Life is that simple. Finding a great book is even more simple. I don't have a favorite author, but a favorite book? Fahrenheit 451 . Now, that's what you call an awesome book. It explores a new dystopian society. Well, not new new , most of us have thought about this before, but this book might have just painted the perfect picture of a world without books; a world where the only information you obtain is from an electronic device. In this wor

Conformity

Conformity . You don't hear that word that often. It just means that sometimes we try to be someone that we aren't and a lot of the times it interferes with the development of our identities. Which is weird because it's our identity, hence the our . It makes us go from this, to this. But, on the inside we feel like this, Now if you've ever watched the movie ¨Dead Poets Society¨, then you'll know that movie is all about conformity. I do recommend watching that amazing movie, by the way. The society around us affects everything we do, including how we think and how we conform . We conform to try to ¨fit in¨, when we feel left out. Trying to change something about ourselves to seem more likable to the group that rejects us. That doesn't help our identity in any but one way; it helps us bring out the better in ourselves, to find who we really are. Finding who we are makes us feel less lost in life, although we will always find somethin

Con Man or Not?

I'm sure you've heard of con men & thieves; liars, essentially. How can you be sure who is who? Are you one? I've been thinking that maybe we are all con men, maybe we are all enforced by just one con man. In shows, they talk about con men, label them when they are all the same. Excluding themselves to make them look and feel better. They judge everyone except themselves. We are all the same. It's all a matter of acceptance, right? Wrong. We may all be cons, but we all are not the same, or maybe we aren't cons at all. It is completely possible that there is no such thing as a con man or even a right or wrong. It is completely possible to not be a good or a bad. So, what about reality? If we aren't the cons, then who is? Reality? Reality can be the real con, the only con. Maybe what we think is reality, isn't even reality. This can all just be one big dream. Then, maybe then, we, us, the people, are not con men at all. We are just human bei
